Zora Neale Hurston

Zora Hurston

Think you could pass for being 10 years younger than your actual age? That's what Zora Neale Hurston had to do to receive the education she desired (you weren't qualified for free education over the age of 16 so at 26 years old she lied about her age). She then went on to attend Barnard College and Howard University. She traveled to Florida, Haiti, Honduras, and the Caribbean to do fieldwork. She's a writer, play write, folklorist, and anthropologist. She's a literal renaissance woman having a large influence on the Harlem Renaissance movement. Not only that but they still honor her every year at the Zora Festival held in Florida.
